Hundreds attended this year’s first summer concert at Arceo Park in the City of El Monte on Wednesday, July 24.
Bandleader Ray Carrion put together “Thee Latin AllStars,” featuring well-known artists like Steve Salas from “Tierra,” Ersi Arvizu from “El Chicano,” Greg Esparza from “Thee Midniters,” and Sal Rodriguez from “War.”
During two sets the band performed hits anywhere from the soulful “Sabor a Mi” to the Mexican ranchera “Volver, Volver” and the El Monteans seemed to thoroughly enjoy their time outdoors dancing, singing along, and perusing the vendor and food booths placed about the park.
In attendance were members of the El Monte City Council including Mayor Andre Quintero and Mayor Pro Tem Norma Macias with their respective families. The concert was recorded by El Monte’s Channel 3.
The event was one of three scheduled at the park in a series called “Rockin’ Wednesdays” that will continue July 31 with “La Internacional Sonora Show” and August 7 with “Los Pistoleros.”
August 7 has also been appointed by the El Monte Police Department as “National Night Out,” and the first 1,000 residents in attendance at the park that evening will receive a complimentary flashlight.
Arceo Park is located at 3125 Tyler Avenue. The summer concerts are held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. For more information call (626) 580-2200.
