

Four Monrovia High School students have qualified to participate in the National SkillsUSA competition to be held in Kansas City, Kansas, in June. In order to raise funds for travel expenses to the competition, a pancake breakfast fundraiser is being held at Applebee’s restaurant in Monrovia over Memorial Day Weekend. Tickets are and must be purchased in advance. They are available from the Monrovia Adult School Office at 920 S. Mountain Ave., Monrovia, through May 25. Breakfast includes consists of pancakes, eggs, country potatoes, bacon, orange juice, and coffee. Half of all ticket sales go to benefit the student travel fund.
The students won a regional gold medal which qualified them for the state competition held in San Diego during April. Their gold medal win allows the students to represent California at the National Level. More than 7000 students from across the nation show off their talents in this week-long conference encompassing multiple career technology contests.
Monrovia’s entrepreneurship team representatives include Bryan Bravo, Amanda Mansoorbakht, Timothy Ramirez, and Breana Salgado. The group advisor is Scott Sorgent. These students are hoping the breakfast will to raise funds to help defray the travel costs.
SkillsUSA in a national and international organization dedicated to showcasing the skills of students in Career Technology fields. The organization is made up of both a leadership and a skills component, encouraging students to learn more about a particular skills area or leadership role.
